Description

In this essay, you will write on the foundations of character formation and discipleship. You are encouraged to use the feedback from your instructor on the “Character Formation Essay: Annotated Bibliography & Outline” assignment in Topic 2 to complete this essay.

Part 1: Gospel Foundations of Character Formation

In Part 1, you will identify the formational attributes of the Christian narrative (or the gospel). What are the elements of the gospel story that are essential to a theology of character formation? How are those elements, and particularly the element of sanctification, foundational to understanding and experiencing character formation? You should use biblical references to support your points.

Part 2: Discipleship and Character Formation

In Part 2, you will build on Part 1 and explain how the gospel should affect one’s approach to discipleship. In the process of discipleship, how does one’s theology of sanctification relate to the practice of spiritual disciplines? How should the spiritual disciplines be practiced as means of grace? How does God use the spiritual disciplines to lead to character formation?

Part 3: Character Formation in Daily Life

In Part 3, you will build on Parts 1 and 2 and identify personal practices of spiritual disciplines that you will exercise. How will you practice spiritual disciplines, and how do you hope to experience character formation? What will change in your practice of the spiritual disciplines, either in terms of new disciplines or consistency or practice?
