The Annotated Bibliography

bibliography is a list of references that writers may use in their research paper. An annotated bibliography includes a short (3–4 sentences) paragraph summarizing the text and the writer’s understanding of the content. This is extremely valuable because it saves the writer time when deciding which sources to include in the research paper. Once the research paper has been completed, the list of references the writer has used in the research paper appears on a page following the last page of the research essay, called the References page (this will be discussed further in later units).

Write an annotated bibliography according to the following:

  1. Identify 3 resources that you might use for your essay, based on the topic you have selected.
  2. Format references for each resource. Use APA style.
  3. Write 3–5 descriptive sentences for each resource (describe each resource and its importance to the essay).
  4. Submit your description of these 3 resources to the Discussion Board for your peers to review.

Use the following as an example:

Davidson, J. (2016, October 17). Will decriminalization solve the drug scourge? The Washington Post. http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1P2-40144446.html?refid=easy_hfDavidson (2016) discusses “a major push to change the way federal, state and local governments deal with drug enforcement and abuse” by Human Rights Watch and the American Civil Liberties Union. Using real-life examples, he discusses the inequity in sentences for first-time, small-scale drug offenders, who are often incarcerated with murderers and other violent offenders. The information provided herein regarding drug sentencing by normal courts will contrast the drug court sentences discussed in my other sources.
